'About' Johnstone Auction Mart...

Originally:
Johnstone Auction Mart Ltd. was established in 1968 at its current location on Highway #1 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.  The business was established by Lloyd, Wayne, and Bill Johnstone and auction sales started every few weeks with dairy cattle and beef cattle.

Growth:
As the business grew, the sales became weekly, and remain that way to this day. The business evolved over the next 10-15 years to be more beef cattle based, with farm machinery auction sales every year.  Purebred cattle breeders began conducting production sales and dispersals once a cattle wash rack and drying barn were built in the early 1980's.

Over the years from the 1980's to the early 2000's, the business specialized in breeding stock of all kinds of livestock.

Commercial and Purebred livestock producers from primarily southern Saskatchewan began holding female production sales, bull sales, and dispersals of all kinds of livestock. We've added outside pens and water bowls over the years to handle the increasing number of head and sales

Today:
Johnstone Auction Mart Ltd. has passed its 45th anniversary and is still conducting weekly  auctions of miscellaneous farm tools, and household items

Bred Heifers, bred cows, and cow dispersal sales run seasonally with up to 450 head, and currently 12 spring bull sales starting in March.

Regular consignment horse sales are held 8-9 times per year, plus 2 catalogued Prairie Spring & Prairie Harvest sales in May and August

Sheep & goat sales are held 5 times per year, usually handling over 5000 head between them all - these sales are popular for market/feeder lambs as well as breeding stock and culls.

Exotic bird and small animal sales are held in May and October each year with 700-1000 boxes sold at each sale.

Farm machinery auctions are held in the spring, summer, and fall. In addition to off-site farm auctions, we conduct 4 consignment machinery/vehicle/tool auctions at our yard in April, June, July, and October, plus one June sale in Bethune. These sales are very popular for people wanting to sell just a few pieces of machinery or vehicles that don't have enough for an off-site sale of their own.
